Indoor Ideas for Winter Weather: Wheel Art Pottery Studios

Have you ever struggled to find something to do when the Central Illinois winter hits? Fighting to find an indoor activity with the kids, a unique date night or a way to mix up girl’s night out? Look no further! There are numerous pottery studios which have classes, parties, workshops, paint-your-own and create-your-own pottery activities. The Peoria Area pottery studios offer a unique chance for a bonding activity while also avoiding the blustering cold Illinois winter weather.

Wheel Art Pottery Studios is located right here in Peoria on Washington Street and is co-owned by Jacob Grant and Susie Mathews. Mathews has been a resident of the Peoria Area for quite some time whereas Grant relocated to Peoria in 2005 to attend Bradley University and study ceramics. Mathews and Grant met while both working at the Peoria Art Guild in the studio school. When the studio school shut down in 2010, Grant and Mathew decided to create their very own pottery studio. Thus, Wheel Art Pottery Studios was born in the summer of 2010. “I really enjoy working with people from the community; kids, families,” says Grant, “they make it all a lot of fun!” They offer a variety of adult, child or family classes and workshops that are a friendly size; about 8-10 people maximum per class. They also offer classes which teach drawing or pottery basics. This studio is a stop on the tour of Frist Friday, the Central Illinois Artist Organizations’ (CIOA) tour that takes a deeper look at art studios in the Central Illinois on the first Friday of every month. Wheel Art Pottery Studios is also a great location to host a child’s birthday party or a girl’s night out.
