Somehow, we already find ourselves into the month of June and only a few weeks away from the famous UnityPoint – Methodist Red, White and Boom fireworks display. It seems as if that special night will be here in no time, but just in case you’re getting bored, I have plenty for you to check out this weekend!
IHSA 3A and 4A State Softball Championships: If you’re looking for some amateur sports this weekend, EastSide Centre is the place for you. For the second consecutive weekend, they are hosting the IHSA Softball State Championships. This time, the best 3A and 4A teams will take the field in search of the state title. The games are scheduled for the 7th and 8th starting at 10 a.m. For the complete schedule, head to the IHSA website. Don’t miss the last chance of the spring to catch some softball action!
Daniel Tosh: He will become the latest big name in comedy to stroll through Central Illinois with performances on June 6th at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Special guest Jarrod Carmichael will join Daniel Tosh as they perform on “The June Gloom Tour.” These two are sure to keep you laughing throughout the night, but be prepared for some edgy comedy!
Tremont Turkey Festival: This annual festival will run this weekend from June 7-9. There’s so much happening in Tremont throughout this festival that it’s hard for me to highlight a few events, but I’ll do my best. On Friday, check out the pole vault competition, grab a sandwich at the Turkey Express or walk around and check out some arts and crafts. On Saturday, head to the 5K race, check out the horseshoe tournament, throw turkeys at the frozen turkey toss, or indulge in the strawberry shortcake eating contest! To wrap things up on Sunday, head over to the carnival or join in on the fun for the parade.
Peoria Chiefs Home Stand: The 4th place Peoria Chiefs will begin their home stand tonight against the Clinton LumberKings. With fireworks following the game tonight and Saturday, it’s the perfect opportunity to get ready for the big show on July 4th on the Peoria Riverfront. On Friday, swing by the stadium and grab your $0.25 hot dogs at the game. It doesn’t get much cheaper than that! Did I mention that the Chiefs were 7-3 in their last 10 games?
Jammsammich & Dave Matthews Tribute Band: We’ve got you covered in the music world again this weekend. Jammsammich will be playing the CEFCU Center Stage on Friday at 7:30. Their website includes a description that I had to include this quote. “We are committed to the eternally packed dance floor and to the ultimate good time. Our song list is tailored to guarantee an “I-can’t-believe-they-played-that-song” reaction every time and is scientifically proven to cause uncontrollable shaking of the booty.” Sounds like fun to me! See you Friday!
As if that show wasn’t enough, the Dave Matthews Tribute Band will make another appearance on the Riverfront. In years past, they’ve completely stunned the crowd with their ability to replicate original Dave Matthews Band songs, while putting interesting spins on others. Without question, these guys are the best at recreating what a DMB concert is all about. So come on down Saturday to enjoy the sounds of Dave Matthews… well, kind of.
Weaver Ridge Brunch: If you’re looking for a way to enjoy your Sunday, the Weaver Ridge Sunday Champagne Brunch is the way to go. The brunch is served from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and features made-to-order omelets, smoked salmon, a carving station, Belgian waffles, desserts and mimosas. Speaking from experience, you may not eat another meal on Sunday… or Monday, but it’s the perfect way to start the last day of the weekend! Check it out for yourself.
As always, stay busy Peoria and keep it here for news on everything “Playing in Peoria!”
