Yet again, there’s plenty going on in the Peoria Area this weekend. If local festivals are you’re thing, you’re in luck. If you prefer live music, we’ve got that. If you’re a workout machine, there’s an event for you. Even if you just enjoy eating some delicious food, we’ve got that covered as well.

Don’t let the end of summer slow you down. Enjoy what’s going on in the area! Luckily, we’ve given your weekend itinerary a jumpstart!

MarigoldLogoWordsPekin Marigold Festival

Head to Pekin from September 5-8 for the celebration of the 2013 Pekin Marigold Festival. In it’s 40th year, the festival will be better than ever! The musical entertainment kicks off on Saturday and continues through Sunday. The Marigold Parade is taking place on Saturday at 10 a.m., beginning on Broadway. The carnival will run for the entire weekend, including a “Bracelet Night” on Thursday. “May the Marigolds Be With You!” has been chosen for the theme of the festival, as two characters from Star Wars will be in attendance Saturday and Sunday.

Double Feature Friday

Get your weekend off to a good start by taking advantage of this awesome deal. For only $10, you’ll be granted access to the Peoria Riverfront Museum from 5-8 p.m. and CEFCU Center Stage on Peoria’s riverfront for a performance by Sixteen Candles. The cost includes a party on the museum’s Sun Plaza that will be serving adult beverages and access to all of the museum galleries.

CIAO First Fridays Artists’ Studio Tour

Don’t miss out on the opportunity for an intimate look at studios, galleries and arts organizations in the Peoria Area. The Central Illinois Artists Organization sponsors this event, which allows visitors to meet artists, musicians, neighbors and collectors. The tour includes 10 locations and spans many different artistic categories. Get out and support local artists on Friday.

extremeCross Fire Fitness Games

Get out to Extreme Warrior Gym in East Peoria on Saturday for the fitness competition that benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In the event, participants will compete in a 20-minute AMRAP (as many reps/rounds as possible in 20 minutes). There will also be side competitions, vendors, food and music! Whether you’re a participant or just an observer, come out and help support a good cause!

Taste of Washington

Even though this isn’t a weekend event, I always feel the need to write about something that features so many good eats! On Tuesday, September 10, the 2013 Taste of Washington will be serving the best food in the area. From 5-8 p.m., head to the Valley Forge Plaza for your chance to eat the best food Washington has to offer in one location!
