“Playing in Peoria” – September 11

I hope you’re ready for an incredible weekend in the Peoria Area, with events including local festivals, a performance by one of the greatest songwriters ever and even a photography contest for all ages! Along with these, there’s plenty more to keep you busy this weekend!



Homestead Festival

This three-day festival kicks off on Friday, September 13. Check out the “Pulled Pork Barbecue Dinner Social” on opening night. On Saturday, be sure to participate in the Underground Railroad 5K race. If you’re headed to Princeton on Sunday, head to the Homestead Festival Car Show and see some classic rides. There’s plenty more going on throughout the weekend, including Jaycees Beer Garden, parades, concerts and food vendors.

prineJohn Prine at the PCC

Famous songwriter John Prine will be performing at the Peoria Civic Center on Friday, September 13. Prine has written songs for Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, the Everly Brothers, John Denver, Kris Kristofferson, Carly Simon, Ben Harper, Joan Baez and many others. Prine recently released The Singing Mailmain Delivers; a two-disc set featuring his earliest studio and live performances. Don’t miss out on seeing one of the best songwriters of our time!


Morton Pumpkin Festival

The 47th Annual Morton Pumpkin Festival gets underway tonight. This celebration of everything pumpkin is held on the Jefferson School Grounds in downtown Morton. You will find plenty of things to do, including carnival rides, special displays and great food!

Peoria Zoo Photo Contest

Head over to the Peoria Zoo for the first annual Photo Safari Contest. From now until November 2 at 5:00 p.m. visitors will have the opportunity to turn in 8×10 entries of photographs taken at the zoo. Participants will be judged in the following categories: Best Action Shot and Best Overall Shot. On November 9, the photographs will be on display in the Topics Building from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The winners will be announced at 11:00 a.m.

Get to the Peoria Zoo this weekend and start taking a few pictures!


Who’s Bad at CEFCU Center Stage

If you’re looking for some live music, the Peoria riverfront is the place for you on Saturday night! Who’s Bad will perform at the CEFCU Center Stage at 7:30 p.m. This band is the ultimate music-and-dance driven Michael Jackson tribute!

Advanced tickets can be purchased for $10 at Emack & Bolio’s on the riverfront, or by calling (309) 494-6713. Tickets will be sold for $15 the night of the show.
