“Playing in Peoria” – September 19

Written By: Andrew Ketterer

You couldn’t ask for a better forecast this weekend in the Peoria Area. Temperatures should stay in the low-70’s and the rain should stay clear of Peoria. Fall festivals, live music and even some live comedy all made its way onto the schedule in Central Illinois this weekend. Be sure to take advantage of the beautiful weather by getting out an experiencing something new in the Peoria Area.

Visit the Peoria riverfront September 20-22 for Oktoberfest, sponsored by the German American Central Society. The three-day festival showcases German heritage through song, dance, food, drink, cultural exhibits and more. Additional events include the Das Bier 5K Run and German dinners every night.

Double Feature Friday

If you’re interested in relaxing with an adult beverage and unwinding after a long week of work, the Peoria Riverfront Museum has just the event for you. Come party on the museum’s Sun Plaza from 5-8 p.m. and enjoy live music and the museum galleries for only $10. Then, walk down to CEFCU Center Stage for a live performance from the Modern Day Romeos. Sounds like a rockin’ night to me!

jsJerry Seinfeld

One of the world’s premier comedians, Jerry Seinfeld, will be performing his routine at the Peoria Civic Center on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Seinfeld has been praised for his ability to joke about the little things in life, relating to audiences everywhere. If you’re looking for a good laugh, now you know exactly where to find it this weekend.

Tickets are available at the Peoria Civic Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and ticketmaster.com.

Autumn Fest

This family-friendly event is held in Washington Square each fall, with plenty of activities to keep your group entertained. The Gym Corner Gymnasts will perform at 4:00 p.m. There will be free carriage rides from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Live music and food will be available throughout the event. And lastly, for all of you shoppers out there, the Washington Specialty Shops will remain open throughout the festival. So if you’re interested in a hometown festival, Washington is the place for you on Saturday.

I know I’ve already mentioned Oktoberfest as a highlight event this weekend, but this little contest sounds like so much fun. Basically, the masskrugstemmen is a beer stein holding contest. Contestants will stand atop the picnic tables in the main tent, hold a 1-liter stein of beer with their arm extended and are not allowed to spill any beer. Whoever hold the beer the longest wins!

Friday – 9:15 p.m.
Saturday – 8:00 p.m.
Sunday – 2:00 p.m.
