At one time, Peoria, Ill. was known as the whiskey capital of the world, with 24 breweries and 73 distilleries operating from 1837 to 1919. Not a single place in the world produced as much bourbon and rye from local distilleries as Central Illinois.
Although most breweries and distilleries have since waved goodbye, one local distillery is attempting to bring back a bit of tradition.
J.K. Williams Distilling is bringing craft whiskey back to Central Illinois. Jon & Kristin and Jesse & Kassi Williams are focused on taking J.K.’s vision of full-flavored bourbon and whiskey into the future. Their want to replicate the same small-batch whiskey as their great-great-grandpa is something that sets this distillery apart from others.
This is a budget-friendly, but still high-quality whiskey. It is made with J.K.’s original bootleg Prohibition-era recipe. Whether you are looking for a shot or a mixer with your favorite drink, this is a perfect whiskey for your next get-together with friends.
Smitty’s Apple Pie
According to the new distillery, their grandpa made the best version of the classic dessert, and now it’s being made in a party-friendly format. You won’t even need a mixer for this one, but it pairs perfectly with cider or tea.
J.K.’s Lemon Whiskey
Sit back and enjoy what I’m calling grown-up lemonade. Although it’s great at all times of the year, this whiskey is perfect for a warm summer day. It’s tasty all by itself or mixed with soda or lemonade.
Young Buck Bourbon – Coming Soon
This bourbon will be the perfect way to unwind after a long day. It will pair perfectly with a beautifully cooked steak, and will make every night a bit more special. It tastes great on the rocks or with a splash of soda.
